Nearly 67,000 West Virginians Have Already Voted, and Early Voting Runs Through Saturday
Secretary of State Kris Warner reports 66,855 ballots cast through the first four days of early voting and absentee voting for the Nov. 3 General Election. Early voting continues in all 55 counties through Oct. 31.
West Virginians aren't waiting around for Election Day. With the polls open early in every corner of the state, nearly 67,000 ballots have already been cast in the 2026 General Election, according to new numbers from Secretary of State Kris Warner.
Warner's office reported a total turnout of 66,855 ballots through the end of the day on Saturday, October 24. That's about 5.5% of the state's 1,210,297 registered voters, and it covers absentee voting plus just the first four days of early in-person voting.
The Numbers So Far
The vast majority of those votes were cast in person. Here's the breakdown the Secretary of State's office released:
- In-person early votes cast: 62,366
- Absentee ballots requested: 8,290
- Absentee ballots returned: 4,489
- Total ballots cast to date: 66,855
"Casting a ballot is one of the most powerful ways to make your voice heard," Warner said. "Whether you head to the polls early or cast your ballot on Election Day, your vote counts, and every eligible West Virginian deserves a clear, accessible path to participate in shaping our shared future."

There's Still Time to Vote Early
Early in-person voting started Wednesday, October 21, and runs through Saturday, October 31. All 55 counties have at least one early voting location, so whether you live in the Eastern Panhandle, the coalfields or up in the Northern Panhandle, there's a spot near you. Election Day itself is Tuesday, November 3.
Warner is encouraging voters to look over their sample ballot before they head out. Sample ballots for all 1,677 precincts in the state are available at GoVoteWV.com and from county clerks' offices. GoVoteWV.com also lists early voting locations and information on what ID to bring to the polls.
A Big Voter Roll This Fall
The registration deadline for this election was October 13, and the state's voter rolls grew heading into it. Warner's office said 17,872 West Virginians registered to vote between the May 12 primary and the deadline, bringing the total to 1,210,297.
By party, there are 527,532 registered Republicans, 326,697 Democrats and 307,373 voters with no party affiliation, along with 10,876 Libertarians, 2,810 Mountain Party members, 289 Constitution Party members and 34,720 voters listed as "Other."
What's Next
Warner said his next turnout update, the First Week Report, will cover voting from October 21 through October 28 and will include county-by-county and party breakdowns. We'll be watching to see which counties are showing up strongest.
From the courthouse steps to the community center down the road, West Virginians have always taken pride in having their say. If you haven't voted yet, grab a neighbor, check your sample ballot and make a plan. Early voting wraps up Saturday.
