Barbour County Unveils America250 Mural

Barbour County has added a new mural tied to America’s 250th birthday celebration.

Barbour County has unveiled a new America250 mural as communities across West Virginia prepare to mark the nation’s 250th birthday.

The mural gives the county a visible local piece of the larger semiquincentennial celebration, connecting statewide heritage work with a public art project residents and visitors can see in person.

Public Art Meets Local History

America250 projects are expected to show up in many forms over the next year, from ceremonies and educational programs to tourism campaigns and historic preservation efforts. A mural offers a simple way to make that celebration part of everyday community life.

For Barbour County, the project can also serve as a point of pride and a small tourism draw. Public art often gives downtowns and historic communities a new gathering point, especially when it is tied to a story larger than one building or block.

The unveiling adds another West Virginia community to the long list of places using the 250th anniversary to highlight local identity, history and civic memory.
