Webster County received a financial boost this week when the West Virginia Treasurer’s Office returned more than $48,000 in unclaimed property to the county Sheriff’s Office.

Unclaimed property programs return money and assets that have been turned over to the state after going dormant. For public offices, recovered funds can help support local operations without adding a new burden to residents.

Returned Money For Local Use

Treasurer Larry Pack presented the check in Webster County, highlighting a state program that can benefit individuals, businesses and government agencies when old accounts are matched with the rightful owner.

Residents can also search the state’s unclaimed property database to see whether money is waiting in their name. Even small claims can add up, and larger returns like Webster County’s show why the program remains worth checking.
